No. 5 Porto Germeno

Number 5 among the best beaches in Athens is Porto Germeno. Located 70 kilometres from Athens, in the western part of Attica, Corinthian Bay is home to Porto Germeno. Ringed by safe, easily accessible beaches, ideal for swimming and beach games, this is a favourite destination for families, with the most popular spots being Agios Nikolaos and Platia beaches. While these beaches are not organised, there are numerous options for dining and drinks at the nearby taverns.

Porto Germeno main beach is one of the beaches of Porto Germeno settlement, just 0.3 km from its centre. The beach is located in an urban area with very picturesque views, surrounded by the cliffs.

It is a straight coastline with crystal turquoise water and light fine pebbles, so you don’t need special shoes. The sharpness of entering the water is quite normal. This beach is suitable for different categories of people, lonely travellers, relaxation getaway lovers etc. It is not a crowded place during the season.

Number 4 among the best beaches in Athens is Avlaki. Only four kilometres south of Porto Rafti, Avlaki is an exquisite organised beach with easy access from Attica Road. While it does charge a fee for general admission, guests with disabilities are admitted free of charge. As one of Greece’s Blue Flag beaches, visitors here have a fair range of services at their disposal, including deck chairs and umbrellas, a bar, a restaurant, lifeguards and a medical unit for emergencies.

Avlaki beach is located 30.4km away from the city of Athens. The beach is located in a natural place with very picturesque views, surrounded by the cliffs.

No. 3 Psatha

Number 3 among the best beaches in Athens is Psatha. Everything in Psatha refers to an exotic island or better to heaven! The beach, lies on the Corinthian gulf, consists of various images as the endless sea blue with the colourful shingled beach and the combination of the imposing Kithairon mount with the large area of pine forests. Images from the waves to the firs may catch a visitor’s eye!

Psatha is a 2,5 kilometres long beach, which is offered for swimming in the crystal blue waters, for sunbathing under the unique sun of Greece, for a marine exploration by renting a canoe and generally for a relaxed excursion even for the local residents! Accommodation facilities such as traditional taverns and coffee shops are available quite close to the beach and the visitors have the chance to taste fresh fishes and sea food or drink their coffee while enjoying the view of the beach and the mountain across.

According to folklore tradition, the name “Psatha” came from the “psathi”, a famous plant that grows almost in all regions and looks like a straw. Moreover, as per Pausanias, the great Greek traveller and geographer, and his work “Description of Greece” – “Hellados Periegesis” the place also has a great historical past! In antiquity Psatha’s bay was a big port named “Panormos” which belonged to “Pages” the previous name of modern’s – day place called ‘Alepoxori”. After excavations, archaeologists revealed the acropolis of the city and a temple. Moreover, historical facts and mythological traditions are relevant with Kithairon mount. The combination of historical past with the beautiful landscapes and the joy of the sea give Psatha a unique profile!
